On November 1, it will not be possible to make purchases in larger stores. It is not only Sunday, but also of All Saints’ Day – a statutory holiday. Only establishments with their owners behind the counter and those exempted from the trade ban can be opened. The next trading Sunday will not be until December.

Previously, trading on Sunday was possible on August 30. There was no trading Sunday in October. This year there will be two more Sundays without a trade ban: 13 and 20 December.

The act on restricting trading on Sundays and public holidays entered into force on March 1, 2018. There is a catalog of 32 exemptions. The ban on trading Sundays does not apply, among others, in confectioneries, ice cream parlors, liquid fuel stations, flower shops, newspaper shops, and cafes.

For breaking the Sunday trading ban, there is a penalty of PLN 1,000 to PLN 100,000, and for persistent breach of the law – restriction of liberty.

Trade in a pandemic
Stores have security rules in place due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

Here are the limits for the number of people in stores:

a) for shops with an area of up to 100 m2 – 5 people per cash register
–
b) for shops over 100 m2 – 1 person per 15 m2.

Additionally, there is an obligation to cover the mouth and nose and to wear disposable gloves or to use hand disinfectants when purchasing goods or services.

So-called hours for seniors are back in grocery stores, pharmacies, drugstores and post offices. This means that only people over 60 years of age are served at these points from 10 am to 12 pm from Monday to Friday.

The limit of people in commercial facilities and outlets, as well as postal points of contact was introduced in the red zone from October 17. Pursuant to the ordinance of October 23, the red zones were extended to cover the entire territory of Poland. This means that the above restrictions apply throughout the country.
