No more free corona tests from October 11, 2021: Baden-Württemberg.de

The free citizen tests will end on October 11, 2021. There are still exceptions for certain groups of people. There are no changes in schools, hospitals and nursing homes.

A new federal test regulation will apply from Monday, October 11, 2021. After that, the federal government no longer generally bears the costs for the citizen tests. Only certain groups of people, including children and adolescents, pregnant women and people who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons, are exempt from the costs. The tests can still be carried out in test centers, pharmacies and doctor’s offices.

“The free citizen tests in the spring and summer were valuable in combating the pandemic. But now we have entered a new phase. Most of us are vaccinated – we can offer any citizen over the age of 12 a vaccination offer. It is therefore right that the federal government should only finance the test precisely for those people who really need it. I appeal to everyone else: Get vaccinated, this is the only long-term way out of the pandemic, “said Health Minister Manne Lucha on Thursday, October 7, 2021 in Stuttgart.

Continue free tests in schools, hospitals and nursing homes

There are no changes in schools, hospitals and nursing homes. In order to ensure classroom teaching in schools in autumn and winter, the state will continue to provide free tests for the test strategy in schools until the end of the year. Hospitals and nursing homes are still obliged to offer non-immunized visitors a free test – they may not be referred to external test offers that are subject to a fee. “In these areas, the tests remain free of charge, because residents and patients are dependent on social contacts and need visits,” said Health Minister Lucha.

Also not affected by the changes are the employees of hospitals and nursing homes, which are subject to regular testing obligations due to the requirements of the “Corona Ordinance on Hospitals and Nursing Institutions”. These tests are still to be offered by the employer free of charge.

Also the Duty for employersto make free tests available to their employees remains in place.

No free tests for students

The end of the free test also applies to students. Fortunately, as the first responses from the Universities of Mannheim and Tübingen show, there is already a very high vaccination rate of 85 to 90 percent.

For students who cannot be vaccinated or for whom there is no vaccination recommendation Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO) there is still the option to take the free citizen test.

The state made 400,000 tests for students available to universities in the summer semester. As far as tests are still available at the universities, these will be used in the transition over the next few weeks. Students from abroad who are studying in Germany and who have been vaccinated with vaccines not recognized in Germany can have a quick test free of charge until December 31, 2021.

We call on students who have not yet taken advantage of the vaccination offer to do so again. Universities also try to reach all students again with special vaccination campaigns at the beginning of the semester so that they can still be vaccinated unbureaucratically. One thing is clear: the highest possible vaccination rate is the key for a winter semester with as much attendance as possible. In doing so, we also jointly bear responsibility for making the gathering on campus and in the lecture halls safe for everyone and for protecting ourselves and others. Vaccination is essential for this.
