No more complaining, truth in costs is required

At the Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, big words will be followed by smaller deeds. It was enough to uphold the principle of true costs.

It is an everyday process that is repeated hundreds of thousands of times a year: a vehicle is registered and the necessary insurance is presented. Only those who have taken care of liability are allowed to drive off. If it crashes – and it crashes over 200,000 times a year – then those to blame assume the consequences. Nobody bothers that the sum insured per contract is a hefty 7.6 to 30 million euros, although most sheet metal damage can be compensated with significantly less money.

This process is so natural that it doesn’t really need to be mentioned. It would simply not be worth mentioning if there were not also areas in which this basic principle – this “principle of responsibility” – is overridden. For example, when what we like to call “environment” is involved.
