No adapted vaccination advice for pregnant women

Despite the increasing number of admissions of pregnant women with corona, RIVM does not adjust the vaccination advice for this risk group. Last week, five heavily pregnant women ended up in intensive care (IC) due to serious corona complaints. NU.nl reports this.

According to the RIVM, not much can be done to change the advice since it was adjusted to a positive advice. Women ultimately decide for themselves whether to get vaccinated against the coronavirus or not.

Three times more likely

They can now make this consideration better with the knowledge that pregnant women are three times more likely to have an IC admission than women of the same age who are not pregnant. The Delta variant is even more dangerous. According to the Association for Obstetrics and Gynecology (NVOG), this can be due to the less well-functioning immune system, but also due to the decreasing volume of the lungs during pregnancy.

Less than half of pregnant women have so far received a corona vaccination, possibly because they were previously advised against doing so.
