Niort and Poitiers launch their crisis unit

Poitou is not immune to the heat wave that is flooding much of France. Vienne and Deux-Sèvres are among the 53 departments classified in orange heat wave vigilance Friday August 7, the hottest day of the period. Niort and Poitiers have activated their crisis unit.

Appeal to fragile people

In both cities, the crisis unit first consists of contact people identified as fragile (elderly people in particular). These calls make it possible to verify that the registered people are well, and to remind them of the right actions in the event of a heat wave: drink water, eat in sufficient quantity, close the shutters during the day … 1,700 people are listed in Niort. In Poitiers, 327 are contacted daily. In case of no response, home visits are organized by agents and CCAS, in order to prevent emergency services if necessary.

The city of Niort is also opening day care centers for the homeless :

  • at the Red Cross, 6 bis rue Rochette, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday August 8 from noon to 9 p.m., Sunday August 9 from noon to 4 p.m.
  • at the Escale / La Colline association, 105 avenue Saint-Jean d’Angély, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday August 8 and Sunday August 9 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Opening hours for furnished swimming pools

To help the inhabitants to withstand the heat a little better, or at least to try to cool off, the two cities have decided toopen municipal swimming pools later, often until 8 p.m. or 9 p.m.

Grand Poitiers adapts the hours of municipal swimming pools to the heat wave period.
Greater Poitiers

The new Niort swimming pool hours are available on the Niort agglo site.

The Poitiers municipal parks are also open later : Blossac, the Simone Veil garden, the Parc Floral and the Jardin des Plantes now welcome the public until 11:30 p.m. The city of Niort, for its part, has posted a mapping of islands of freshness where it is possible to seek some air in the city.
