The Nintendo Switch (2019) is during Black Friday 2021 on sale at Media market. The console (neon version) with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and three months of Nintendo Switch Online is currently in the color neon offered for only 289 euros. Be quick, because the stocks of consoles are extremely small and the OLED version is only on stock at Bol.com for the suggested retail price.
An analysis by Digital Foundry shows that the Switch (2019) has a power consumption that is 40 to 50 percent lower during gaming compared to the original model. The video below shows that the new version only consumes 6 to 7W while running Fast RMX, while the original Switch consumes 12 to 13W at the same point in the game.
At full screen brightness, the new Switch manages to last almost 80 percent longer. According to Nintendo, the new Switch has a battery life of between 4.5 and 9 hours. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is playable for approximately 5.5 hours instead of the current model’s 3 hours, which has an average battery life of 2.5 to 6.5 hours.
The published specifications show that the new revision of the Switch is equipped with a battery of 4310mAh, which is identical to the capacity of the existing model. The improved battery life is due to an updated version of the NVIDIA Tegra X1 soc, T214 Mariko. This is produced on a 16nm process, while the old model is equipped with a 20nm chip. Other improvements include the switch to Sharp’s IGZO LCDs and the replacement of the LPDDR4 main memory with LPDDR4X.
The Nintendo Switch (2019) can be recognized by a new box with much more red on the front. In terms of functionality and design, the Switch has remained unchanged.
