Nintendo apologizes in a notice on its Japanese website for anticipated problems with the production and delivery of the Switch console and associated accessories. The manufacturer expects delays due to the corona virus outbreak.
In the message on the Japanese site Nintendo specifically talks about delay for the Japanese market. That is the home market of Nintendo and the company sells a relatively large part of its products there. Nintendo produces its Switch consoles in China and partly in Vietnam. The message does not say whether the delay will also affect other parts of the world.
Nintendo also expects new deliveries from the Ring-Con, the accessory that comes with the Ring Fit Adventure game, to be delayed. The South China Morning Post wrote on Wednesday that the demand for that game in China has increased considerably since the outbreak of the corona virus, because people are often at home. On trade websites, the game is sold twice the retail price, according to the newspaper. The game has not yet been officially released in China, but major web stores in the country are already selling the game.
Since the outbreak of the corona virus, various reports have appeared about the possible impact on the production of tech products, but often the news is unconfirmed. Foxconn, a manufacturer that makes iPhones for Apple, among other things, initially said that the virus would have little impact. A source of Reuters earlier this week that the iPhone production will be considerably delayed if the Chinese factories still have to remain closed after 10 February.
