The price of oil on the way from the manufacturer to the store shelves increases more than 3 times. The production price is BGN 2 per liter, and it is offered to end customers for over BGN 6. This is shown by inspections of the Consumer Protection Commission, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Cornelia Ninova from Varna.
In the last 24 hours, the CPC has conducted over 200 inspections in supermarkets, small and large stores. Ninova gave several examples of what the inspections showed – the delivery price to the store with VAT, for example, increases from BGN 2 to BGN 2.97, and then sells for BGN 5.99. In another case, the delivery price is even higher – BGN 3.21, and it already costs BGN 6.49 on the shelf. ”That is, this is 100% above the delivered price, not above the manufacturer’s price. What is this, if it is not speculation? ”The minister asked rhetorically.
However, in addition to the fact that the trader is burdening the price, it is rising even higher due to the panic. “Don’t overstook yourself!” There is a huge amount of oil in Bulgaria, we have sunflower seeds for production for the next four and a half years. We have no problem with the raw material “, Ninova appeals. He explained that as a result of the events of the last few days, panic is created and people are overstocked, but with the increased demand, the price of oil is further raised, and so with our own actions we cause the price to rise.
All cases of speculation identified by the CPC’s inspections will be referred to the Commission for Protection of Competition. Ninova contacted her on Wednesday, but now the specific data will be passed on. “Everyone will be checked by the CPC. The whole state machine will be upright, since yesterday all institutions in the Ministry of Economy and Industry are on their feet and checking around the country “, she assured. The Commission for Protection of Competition will decide what sanctions it may impose, and in the meantime the Commission for Consumer Protection also has the power to impose fines.
A fine will be imposed for another established violation – for false information. One price was indicated on the brochures of some shops, and double the price on the shelves. An investigation is also under way into information that some traders kept quantities of oil in storage and did not put them on the market, waiting for the price to jump even higher in order to make speculative profits.
According to Ninova, no such problems have been noticed with other food products so far. There is also a shortage of fuel – oil and gas supplies have not stopped and there is no delay.
In Varna, the Deputy Prime Minister also met with the leadership of Agropolichim because of the tension and anxiety among farmers in connection with interrupted or difficult supplies of fertilizers. “They are worried that they will not be able to prepare for this year’s harvest because of this. After the conversation with Agropolichim, I want to assure 200% that they feel calm. We learned from the company’s management that they have raw materials, work at full speed and can satisfy the Bulgarian market, they even have a balance for export. They are not dependent on gas supplies, because for the most part the production works with biomass “, Ninova was categorical.
