Nine Communist Generals, Including Former Rocket Force Commander, Removed from National People’s Congress Qualifications

[Central News Agency]China’s National People’s Congress Standing Committee announced on the evening of the 29th that it decided to remove nine Communist generals, including Zhang Zhenzhong, deputy chief of staff of the Joint Staff Department of the Central Military Commission, and Li Yuchao, the former Rocket Force commander, from their qualifications as representatives of the National People’s Congress. This move further confirms the previously rumored major arms corruption case involving the Rocket Force.

Public information shows that among the nine generals who have been stripped of their qualifications as representatives of the National People’s Congress, three are generals and at least four others are lieutenant generals.

According to the announcement, the generals who have been dismissed from their qualifications as representatives of the National People’s Congress are Zhang Zhenzhong (lieutenant general), deputy chief of staff of the Joint Staff Department of the Central Military Commission, Zhang Yulin (lieutenant general), former deputy director of the Equipment Development Department of the Central Military Commission, and deputy director of the Equipment Development Department of the Central Military Commission. Rao Wenmin (unknown military rank), Deputy Commander of the Southern Theater Command Ju Xinchun (lieutenant general), and former Air Force Commander Ding Laihang (general).

The Rocket Force is the hardest-hit area. Those dismissed from the qualifications of the National People’s Congress are Lv Hong (major general), director of the Rocket Force Equipment Department, Li Yuchao (general), former commander of the Rocket Force, Li Chuanguang (lieutenant general), deputy commander of the Rocket Force, and former Rocket Force Commander Zhou Yaning (General).

Nine generals were removed from the National People’s Congress, which means that they are either guilty or have been involved in the case and have been subject to coercive measures.

In addition, Zhang Yulin’s position as a member of the National People’s Congress Financial and Economic Committee; Ding Laihang’s position as a member of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee and deputy chairman of the National People’s Congress Overseas Chinese Committee; Zhou Yaning’s position as a member of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee and deputy chairman of the National People’s Congress Foreign Affairs Committee are all Revoked accordingly.

Two days ago, the 12th Chairman’s Meeting of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference decided to revoke the qualifications of three senior officials of central military enterprises, including Wu Yansheng, Liu Shiquan, and Wang Changqing, as members of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. Hong Kong media Sing Tao quoted news that they were involved in the Rocket Army corruption case. Defense Minister Ri Sang-bok is also involved.
