Nikkei Stock Average Continues to Fall to 38,625.22 Yen in Tokyo Stock Market – Latest Updates and Analysis

TOKYO (Reuters) – In the morning Tokyo stock market, the Nikkei average continued to fall, dropping 70.75 yen from the previous business day to 38,625.22 yen. Semiconductor-related stocks were weak due to the decline in high-tech stocks in the US market, pushing down the index. On the other hand, value stocks were supported by buying.

The Nikkei Stock Average fell by 104 yen, and at one point widened its decline by 295 yen to 38,400 yen.17, but then declined. In the market, “Growth stocks sold off as there was a feeling that buying had run its course, but value stocks supported the market.We expect this trend to continue in the near term ahead of the Bank of Japan meeting (next week).” (Shinkin Asset Management) Naoki Fujiwara, senior fund manager at the investment trust, was asked about his views.

While the weak price movements of semiconductor-related stocks such as Tokyo Electron (8035.T), opens new tab pushed down the Nikkei average, value stocks ranked among the top risers by industry, as well as the TOPIX Growth Index. The index fell 0.41%, while the value index rose 0.41%, showing the relative advantage of value stocks.

TOPIX closed the morning session at 2,648.66 points, up 0.01%. The trading value on the TSE prime market was 2,057,020,000,000 yen. Of the 33 industries on the TSE, 22 industries saw increases, including oil and coal products, mining, and electricity and gas, while prices decreased in 11 industries, including pulp and paper, services, and banks.

Advantest (6857.T), opens new tab, Recruit HLDG (6098.T), opens new tab, and Mitsubishi UFJ FG (8306.T), opens new tab were weak, but observational reports that they are considering collaboration seem to be a factor. Nissan (7201.T), opens new tab and Honda (7267.T), opens new tab are solid. Amid rising crude oil prices, ENEOS HLDG (5020.T), opens new tab updated its highest price since last year.

Regarding the number of rises and falls in the TSE prime market, 945 issues rose (57%), 652 issues fell (39%), and 58 issues remained unchanged (3%).
