Private sector partners contributed 1.2 million euros to a further 70 projects. According to the university, such private research projects are more likely to be carried out with larger companies; small and medium-sized companies would mainly work in publicly funded projects with the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences. According to the university, the largest individual project acquired was a collaborative project to improve power plants using artificial intelligence.

The funding in the millions strengthens the research focus of the university: With 3.5 million euros, the most money flowed into the area “Social and Economic Innovations”, the area “Innovative Product and Process Development” was supported with 3 million euros. 1.3 million were in the “Functional Surfaces” area and one million in “Applied Health and Nutrition Research”. The remaining third-party funds went to projects that lie outside the university’s defined research focus.
