Niantic cancels Pokémon Go event due to coronavirus – Gaming – News

Niantic has canceled a Pokémon Go event in Italy, South Korea and Japan. With that it probably wants to contribute to curbing the spread of the corona virus. Players can catch special Pokémon during the event.

The Niantic support department leaves a short message on Twitter know that the event in question, named Nidorino and Gengar Raid Day, has been canceled in the countries Italy, South Korea and Japan. During the event, which will be held on Sunday afternoon, players could do a raid during which they could catch special versions of Nidorino and Gengar. The event is part of Pokémon Day, the annual event that commemorates the first time a Pokémon game was released in 1996.

Although there are no further details, Niantic is likely to take measures against the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. Pokémon Go players come together in certain places to play the game, which can encourage further distribution.
