The San Francisco 49ers are in the NFC Championship Game.
The California team beat the Dallas Cowboys 19:12 in the NFL playoffs on Monday night. Two of the best defenses delivered the expected defensive battle. In the end, two errors by Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott and a serious injury made the difference. (DATA: NFL Results and Schedule)
Tony Pollard broke his fibula in the second quarter, and without the running back the Cowboys’ running game was severely crippled. In addition, Prescott threw two interceptions in the first half, one of them in the red zone.
His opponent, Brock Purdy, couldn’t shine either, but shot clean. “Mr. Irrelevant,” as he’s called because of his draft position, missed 19 of 29 throws for 214 yards. He was denied a touchdown pass.

The defensive was unsurprisingly the success factor, the outstanding linebaker Fred Warner and Deommodore Lenoir (cornerback) grabbed the interceptions. For the first time since 1984, the 49ers won 12 games in a row. The Dallas defense was also largely convincing, but had to admit defeat at crucial moments.
The best example: Purdy led what is probably the most important Niners drive in the third quarter. An impromptu throw at tight end George Kittle gained 29 yards of space. Eight plays later, running back Christian McCaffery ran from two yards into the end zone and increased to an important 16:9. The Cowboys, who were only ahead in the second quarter after their only touchdown (Prescott on Dalton Schultz over four yards), did not have more than one more field goal to counter.
