In a statement released by the Eagles on Friday evening (local time), the 2018 Super Bowl winner announced that Jackson had been given an unspecified penalty. Despite numerous demands, the 33-year-old will not be released – at least for the time being. Because the apologies that Jackson put off after his misconduct are not enough for the franchise. The Eagles attach a condition to the whereabouts of their wide receiver. “To stay in the team, he has to follow his words with deeds,” the statement said. The fact that Jackson had announced that he wanted to study further in this area could only have been the beginning. Philadelphia did not mention any explicit consequences, but they did have a “concrete plan”.

The three-time Pro Bowl receiver Jackson had shared several posts with anti-Semitic content on Monday, including a book passage that states, among other things, that “Jews are blackmailing America” and are pursuing a “plan for world domination”. The posts had triggered a wave of sharp criticism, especially in the USA, with the Eagles calling Jackson’s now deleted posts “insulting, hurtful and absolutely appalling”.

The player himself initially defended himself, claiming that his intentions had been misunderstood. Since then, Jackson has apologized several times for his misconduct – including to Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie and General Manager Howie Roseman. Both are of Jewish origin.
