NFL, American Football | Media: Newton replaces Brady in the New England Patriots

After nine years in the Carolina Panthers, NFL star Cam Newton is grazing and becoming Tom Brady’s replacement in the New England Patriots, multiple US media reports.

The American footballer from Atlanta was released from the Panthers contract in March and has since been available to the other NFL teams, as a so-called “free agent”.

According to ESPN, Newton will sign a one-year contract for the Foxborough team outside Boston. The news agency AP has also confirmed the agreement.

Tom Brady, who has secured the Patriots six Superbowl victories since joining the team in 2000, went to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after last season.

Newton himself has had success on the field. In 2016, he led the Panthers to the Superbowl, losing to the Denver Broncos. He was named the league’s most valuable player that season.
