FC Barcelona announced the big sensation on its Twitter accounts on Saturday.
Neymar was pictured in the Barcelona jersey, two question marks above it – for many fans the confirmation of the return campaign of today’s PSG superstar. Barca President Josep Maria Bartomeu’s alleged departure was also reported under the hashtag #bartomeuout.
What has now been confirmed: The social media accounts of the Spanish master have been hacked, the news is not true.
A group that calls itself “OurMine” and has been responsible for a number of hacks of prominent Twitter accounts since 2016 had spread the news after apparently cracking the security levels with no problem. At the same time, they had taken over the official Twitter account for the Olympic Games. In January, OurMine also hacked Twitter accounts from the National Football League (NFL) and sports broadcaster ESPN.
FC Barcelona meanwhile confirms the incident and underlines that the Twitter accounts have been hacked and the news has been published from outside the club. The wrong tweets have now been deleted. A cybersecurity team is to ensure that similar incidents will no longer occur in the future.
Some screenshots of the wrong tweets are still in circulation:
