In a statement, Devils owner Josh Harris said that ” The Devils and Ray Shero have agreed to end their association “. In good French, he is fired.
In office since 2015, Shero had worked hard this summer to make the Devils a competitive team. He had acquired the defender P.K. Subban, attackers Nikita Gusev and Wayne Simmonds, in addition to having the chance to fish Jack hughes. Most recently, he traded Taylor Hall and fired head coach John Hynes.
New Jersey does not live up to expectations this season, however. The Devils rank 28th in the NHL overall with a record of 16 wins, 21 losses and seven losses in overtime or shootout.
In the immediate future, it will be Tom Fitzgerald who will assume the functions of general manager and he will be notably advised by former star goalkeeper Martin Brodeur.
The New Jersey Devils and General Manager Ray Shero have agreed to part ways, effective immediately.
