News – IIHF: the All-Star Team of all time in Switzerland

The IIHF has published on its home page the list of Swiss players who it believes are part of the “All Stars Swiss” team never seen on the ice. It is a mix of the three most successful phases of Swiss hockey, the 1920s and 1930s, the late 1940s and early 1950s, and the present day.

So the IIHF chose the goalkeeper Hans Bänninger, which played in the 2nd phase. He won bronze four times at major events, at the 1948 Olympic Games and at the 1950, 1951 and 1953 world championships. He is accompanied in defense by Mark Streit and Mathias Seger.

Streit was the first Swiss field player to play in the NHL, opening the doors to the current generation. Seger has participated in 16 world championships, which is a record.

Bibi Torriani, who scored 55 goals in 49 games in seven World Cup appearances between 1930 and 1939, was voted the best striker in hockey history. He led Switzerland to a silver medal (1935) and three bronze medals at the CM (1930, 1937 and 1939). He also won the Olympic Bronze in 1928 and in 1948. With these six medals, he is the holder of the Swiss record in the matter.

Bibi Torriani formed the famous “ni-Storm” with the brothers Ferdinand “Pic” and Hans Cattini. Pic Cattini scored 51 goals in 49 World Cup games and was also named to the Swiss All Stars team.

Finally, Hans-Martin Trepp complete this striker trio. In the 2nd “era”, Trepp was the player who had previously played with Torriani in the Swiss team. He has scored no less than 50 goals in 29 World Cup games and 14 games in the Olympics. Trepp won a medal at the same major events as the Goalie Bänninger.
