Diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and pulmonary pathologies appear at the top of the risk factors in France for severe cases of Covid 19, according to statistics released Friday by Santé Publique France.
These figures confirm trends already observed in other countries. They show that the serious cases concern above all men, mainly people over 65 and who suffer from other pathologies. An analysis of 2,218 cases admitted to 137 intensive care units in France between March 16 and April 5 shows that 73% are men and 55% are over 65 years of age.
Among these, 23% suffer from diabetes, 19% from cardiac pathology, 17% from hypertension and 16% from pulmonary pathology. More than half of these patients had to be put on a respirator. Another statistical series from Santé Publique France this time deals with mortality, with the analysis of nearly 4,000 deaths occurring since March 1 which bears the mention Covid-19 among the causes of death.
74% of the deceased are 75 years and over, 57.7% are men and the median age (that is, which divides the whole into two numerically equal groups) is 83 years. When mentioned in the certificate, the comorbidity factors are mainly heart disease (34%) hypertension (28%), diabetes (19%) and respiratory pathologies (19%).
