Cuban authorities defend the use of natural medicine in Santiago de Cuba due to a shortage of medicines

In a rather hasty way, the doctors from Santiago will receive an intensive course on the use of natural and traditional medicine (MNT) to alleviate the shortage of medicines in the pharmacy network from the province.

A doctor, who prefers to maintain anonymity, assured that it has been aimed at refreshing the knowledge of professionals at the primary level of health, with a view to updating them in the use of NTM “as it becomes necessary to confront the huge shortage in pharmacies today. Right now, for example, the lack of drugs to treat chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, asthma and diabetes is notorious, but you did not find dipyrone for weeks, with dengue hitting, and there are no antibiotics of any kind ”.

The doctor himself assures that there is great concern in the sector because they know that, although sometimes remedies are prescribed to treat chronic non-communicable diseases, for example hypertension with garlic, holy cane or passionflower, diabetes with cinnamon and purple basil, and asthma with bronquilla and copal; For pathologies such as these, nothing substitutes the use of conventional medications, such as enalapril or salbutamol, both of which are currently deficient in the pharmacy network of this eastern territory.

A specialist in MNT, meanwhile, said that chronic non-communicable diseases, such as high blood pressure, diabetes and asthma, can never be treated exclusively with drugs of natural origin.

A digital publication from a local media ensures that the topic of the NTM is on the agenda of the Provincial Defense Council in Santiago de Cuba today, and it is stated that it is a “strategic” issue in the country, while it is aimed at guaranteeing the alcohol by the state entity in charge of supplying it; the obtaining, transfer and location of the vegetable masses in the Local Production Centers, while the company that recovers raw materials must supply the containers.

Currently, the basic table of medicines in the province of Santiago de Cuba is missing more than 100 drugs, according to the directive of that sector in a television program, and also noted that there are some deficit products four weeks ago.

The solution that many residents of the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba have found is to launch into the network of networks, especially Facebook, to exchange, donate or order medicines.

In this way, communities have emerged where people communicate the medicine they seek and whoever has it and can donate it, reports it. A solution that is not exempt from health risks, not only due to the well-known problems of self-medication, but also because it cannot be verified many times how the medicines were preserved or if they keep their properties intact.

However, this is the only way that many have found to solve their medicine needs, because in pharmacies or by waiting in long lines they can get hold of the medicines they need.
