News, Åsane | Major search operation in Åsane: – Found in good condition

Huge resources were called in on Friday evening for a search operation for a man who had been reported missing from Toppe in Åsane.

The man in his 50s was walking a dog, but hadn’t made a sound since the 1200s.

Police were informed at 6.00pm that the man had not returned from his trip.

Found it damp and cold

Just before 9pm, it was reported that the man had been found in the ground near his residential address. He was wet and cold, but otherwise unharmed, according to police.

– It was a passerby who found it. Coincidentally, this person is involved with Norwegian Rescue Dogs. She hadn’t gone on this particular mission, but she had received a message about who we were looking for, says police team leader Gisle Antun.

Antun says the man was found near his home.

– He wore warm clothes and will be added by the health system to be on the safe side, says Antun.

– Relatives are grateful

The incident leader says he spoke to the man’s closest relatives.

– They are very grateful for the help they have received. On behalf of the Western Police Department, I would like to say that we are incredibly grateful for the work that has been done.

When police were notified of the man, they launched a search with their own resources, police patrol, emergency manager and dog patrols.

Volunteers were then called in and the Red Cross, Norwegian People’s Aid and Norwegian rescue dogs took part in the search operation.

Police have also used drones in connection with the search.
