Newcastle may have dropped points in the previous two rounds, but against Brighton they were in control from the start. The visiting Undav put him in the lead with an own goal, and Burn increased the score in the first half.
After the break, Undav reduced, but Wilson and Guimaraes got the better of Newcastle in the end. Wilson improved his tally to 18 goals in the season, the last time Alan Shearer scored more in the United shirt in the Premier League, when he scored 22 goals in 2003/04.
Thanks to the victory, Newcastle have 69 points in third place in the table and are four points ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool, who are already out of the Champions League spots. The sixth Brighton, on the other hand, complicated the fight for cups.
