The city also broke away from the Hockey Pirates. Chomutov will no longer give millions for hockey

Today, Chomutov’s deputies approved the termination of the memorandum on the support of top sports towards the hockey club Piráti Chomutov.

The city contributes 16 million a year to eight clubs a year, but the joint-stock company Piráti Chomutov is in insolvency proceedings, it owes millions. Last year, the club relegated from the extra league, in the second highest competition it was successful, but before the new season, due to economic problems, it only entered the regional league. The club recently released all players over the age of 22.

In the hockey club, two entities operate side by side, namely a registered association and a joint-stock company. The association is in charge of smaller children, the joint-stock company is in charge of the adult competition and the academy. After long-term owners, the Veverka family, the club was taken over last year by a group of seven businessmen who continued to struggle with debts from the past.

At the last meeting, Mayor Marek Hrabáč (YES) was commissioned to negotiate with the association’s management to create a position in the bodies of the club for city representatives, who will be able to look into the accounts and control the management. The mayor said today that the representative will be approved at the next meeting.

The deputies also approved that the other seven sports clubs will contribute up to ten million crowns a year in 2021 and 2024, which was enforced by the opposition representative Vlastimil Polívka (PRO Chomutov). In the original proposal, the city wanted to support the athlete ten million a year.
