The remarkable invention has been refined over the past five years at the University of Otago. Test subjects who used the device for two weeks lost an average of about 6 kilos. According to the researchers, they were then ‘extremely motivated’ to continue losing weight after the trial.

The university then announced via Twitter that the DentalSlim is not a tool for rapid or long-term weight loss. “It is rather intended to help people who have to undergo surgery, but first have to lose weight.”
According to the university, there is no question of abuse or torture. Users can disable the tool at any time via a safety feature. Breathing and talking is possible, but users are expected to follow a liquid diet for about two to three weeks.
