New Zealand extends quarantine regime / Article

New Zealand will extend its quarantine for another four days due to Covid-19, but much of the country’s quarantine restrictions will be relaxed from next Wednesday. It was announced on Friday by the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jindind Ardern.

“As you can see from today’s figures, it is possible that the distribution curve is starting to level off. Our task is to continue the hard work to turn the curve in the opposite direction. Everything shows that what we are doing is working. But caution is still needed. As we have seen in this outbreak, the delta variant of the virus is definitely more contagious and spreads faster, ”said Ardern.

This is the first nationwide quarantine in New Zealand since March last year, when strict quarantine restrictions were in place for six weeks. New Zealand’s strict policies have so far allowed it to avoid widespread illness among its citizens. But ten days ago, the first local case of Covid-19 was detected since February, and within hours was announced strict quarantine, all schools closed, as well as all companies whose operations are not vital.

70 new infections were reported in New Zealand on Friday. As a result, almost 350 people have become ill since the first infection ten days ago.
