“This morning we are announcing that the IRS has found a new way for those who qualify to acquire the money immediately without having to wait for an ITIN for an entire year,” said Senator Schumer. “What the IRS is doing now is setting up an alternative system to receive aid in one day, the IRS will require eligible New Yorkers to access this fund only with the stamp of the W-7 document showing a pending application “.
Schumer made the announcement in the company of State Senator Jessica Ramos and Assemblywoman Carmen De La Rosa in Diversity Plaza, Queens, and also called for more centers to conduct the process in New York City.

This decision is because the pandemic has caused the IRS to have delays, closures and limited capacity that have prevented thousands of New Yorkers from accessing the fund because they have not been able to acquire their ITIN.
So the IRS developed a new procedure, at their urging, for New York ITIN applicants so they don’t miss out on Excluded Workers Fund payments due to their delays.
Previously, Schumer, Ramos, and De La Rosa lobbied the IRS to expand Taxpayer Assistance Centers that help assist individuals with these applications, dedicate more staff and resources to accumulation, and partner with community and religious groups, too, like Part of ensuring that those who meet the requirements to apply for ITIN do so successfully.
The New York Department of Labor opened the application for the Excluded Workers Fund on Sunday, August 1, and those who meet the criteria can begin the process to acquire an aid payment of $ 15,600 or $ 3,200, less tax.
