New York will send up to an additional $ 95 in SNAP aid – NBC New York (47)

What to know

  • New Yorkers enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits by September, Governor Kathy Hochul announced Tuesday.
  • This means that families already at or near the level of benefit, $ 835 for a family of four, will receive an additional payment of at least $ 95. This would be an injection of approximately $ 234 million in federal funds into the economy of the State of New York.
  • SNAP families in all counties outside of New York City are expected to benefit from these additional benefits between September 13 and Monday September 26. SNAP families in New York City’s five borough region are expected to see their benefits between Friday, September 16 and Thursday, September 29.

NEW YORK – New Yorkers enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits by September, Governor Kathy Hochul announced Tuesday.

The Emergency Assistance Supplement will be provided to all families, including those who normally receive the maximum allowable benefit per month in SNAP, a federally funded program overseen by the New York State Office of Temporary Assistance and disability.

This means that families already at or near the level of benefit, $ 835 for a family of four, will receive an additional payment of at least $ 95. This would be an injection of approximately $ 234 million in federal funds into the economy of the State of New York.

SNAP families in all counties outside of New York City are expected to benefit from these additional benefits between September 13 and Monday September 26. SNAP families in New York City’s five borough region are expected to see their benefits between Friday, September 16 and Thursday, September 29.

The additional dietary benefits are expected to continue until November.

As in previous months, payments will be sent directly to recipients’ existing Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) accounts and can be accessed with their existing EBT cards. Just like regular SNAP benefits, the supplemental benefits can be used to purchase food at licensed grocery stores. Any unused SNAP benefits will automatically roll over to the next month.

Too many hard-working New Yorkers continue to feel the effects of the pandemic, struggling to make ends meet and put food on the table, Governor Hochul said. “My administration will continue to act to support our most vulnerable communities and the $ 234 million in SNAP benefits announced will provide the funding needed to ensure hundreds of thousands of New York families avoid food insecurity.”

In April 2020, the OTDA began providing emergency supplementary benefits to those SNAP families who received less than the maximum monthly benefit amount. When the New York State Emergency Declaration expired in June 2021, the agency successfully partnered with the federal government to ensure the maximum allocation for all SNAP families until the Federal Public Health Emergency Declaration expires, which will be extended until October and will allow the OTDA to continue issuing these benefits until November.
