New York will bring mobile vaccination centers to its beaches this summer

New York, May 25 (EFE) .- The mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, announced this Tuesday that he will deploy temporary vaccination centers on the beaches and in the most popular places of the summer starting next weekend, which marks the unofficial start of summer activities with the Memorial Day festivities.
“We are going to combine the joy of summer and the reopening of the beaches with the vaccination campaign, and this weekend, the mobile vaccination centers are going to be on the beaches throughout the city and in key places where it brings people together to enjoy the summer, “De Blasio said at a press conference.
Among the places the buses will go are the beaches of Coney Island, Brighton Beach, Rockaways and Orchard Beach, although they will also be in Brooklyn Bridge Park, Central Park, Prospect Park and Governors Island.
The announcement comes on the same day that New York City announced that it is close to administering 8 million doses of coronavirus vaccines, and according to De Blasio some 4.1 million New Yorkers have completed the vaccination process.
The mayor also announced that anyone who goes to get vaccinated at the famous Madison Square Garden on Tuesday could get free tickets to a Knicks basketball game this Wednesday, along with team products.
He also revealed that every week everyone who gets vaccinated will be offered to be part of the raffle for a series of prizes, such as vacation packages, concert tickets and Broadway tickets.
All these incentives are in addition to the one announced last week by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who said that lottery tickets with prizes of up to $ 5 million will be distributed at vaccination centers.
The authorities are trying to boost vaccinations in New York state, where the rate of injections has dropped more than 40%, from 216,000 daily doses in mid-April to almost 124,000 today.
This Monday they also opened 7 temporary vaccination centers in airports in New York state, in addition to those that have been deployed in some subway stations in the city.
