For today, Friday, the controversial former president Donald Trump and his children Ivanka and Donald Jr. were summoned by the New York Prosecutor’s Office, but the event was postponed at the request of the family by the death of matriarch Ivana Trump happened yesterday in NYC.

The testimony originally set to start today Friday is part of the Attorney General Letitia James investigation into Trump Organization business dealings, after an intense legal battle in New York courts. Some experts have anticipated that the result of this lawsuit could determine whether or not Trump can run for president again in 2024a campaign that he proposes to activate as soon as possible.

Following the sudden death yesterday of Trump’s ex-wife and mother of his investigated children, James’ office agreed to postpone sworn interviews following a request from family members.

“This is a temporary delay and statements will be rescheduled as soon as possible,” said spokeswoman for the prosecution, Delaney Kempner, in a statement quoted by New York Post. “We offer our condolences to the Trump family.”

The Trumps exhausted various legal remedies to avoid testifying before James. Part of his legal argument is that New York prosecutors could use his testimony to open a criminal investigation, when the investigation now remains civil. James’ investigation looks at four real estate projects and Trump’s attempt to buy the NFL’s Buffalo Bills.

Matriarch Ivana was married to the real estate developer from 1977 to 1992 and was always considered a key piece in the formation of the so-called “Trump real estate empire” that was growing from New York to various parts of the world. But she was not being investigated by the New York District Attorney.

After leaving the presidency in January 2021, Trump and his children did not return to New York, but progressively moved to Florida. Only the matriarch Ivana remained living in the city, mostly confined during the coronavirus crisis, until dying yesterday from an apparent heart attack. According to New York Post, For today, Friday, he was preparing his first post-pandemic trip, specifically to St. Tropez, France.
