New York Metropolitan Shooting: One Dead | Abroad

A 46-year-old man was shot in the chest by another New York subway passenger around noon. The man died of injuries sustained in the hospital. The police are still looking for the perpetrator.

The shooting took place in Manhattan on the so-called Q line, just before the subway arrived at Canal Street station. The victim died in the hospital. There were no further injuries. Police believe the attack was “unmotivated”.

“According to witnesses, the suspect was walking back and forth in the same car,” Police Chief Kenneth Corey said. “For no reason, he pulled out a gun and shot it at the victim at close range.” According to witnesses, until then there had been no interaction between the victim and his assailant.

Shootings in April: ten wounded

In April, New York City was also rocked by a subway shooting when a man opened fire during the morning rush hour. Shortly before, he had put on a gas mask and detonated smoke bombs. Ten people were injured by the bullets and thirteen others were injured in the panic that followed. There were no deaths. The author, Frank James, was arrested the next day thanks to suggestions from New Yorkers.

James faces life imprisonment. The reason for the attack is not clear. In numerous rants he posted on YouTube, James commented on people from diverse backgrounds and railed against New York City Mayor Eric Adams. He also complained about the mental health treatment he received in the city years ago.
