New York is among the states that give worst tips to workers

On the other hand, the five states that give the best tips, as well as the average amount they offer, are:

Delaware: 21.8%

–Kentucky: 20.7%
–West Virginia: 20.6%

Among the top 12 metropolitan areas, Cleveland is the top tipper, averaging 20.6%; and San Franciscans give the least, at just 17%.

To arrive at these results, Toast collected data from 79,000 restaurants across the country, taking into account tips given by credit card and other digital forms, but not cash.
