End clap for the New York Ferris Wheel. Investors have officially announced the final halt to construction of the New York Wheel.
This project, launched in 2012, provided for the construction on Staten Island of a giant ferris wheel, modeled on the London Eye from London. With 192 meters high, against 135 meters for the London wheel, the New York Wheel was to offer visitors a spectacular view of New York Bay!
The budget has almost tripled in 4 years
Unfortunately, the project never managed to take off. In 2012, when the project was presented to the press, construction was estimated at $ 230 million. The bill then shot up, reaching nearly $ 600 million in 2016, when the pedestal elements were delivered. And despite the bad surprises that were accumulating, the promoter had again reaffirmed in 2017 his intention to go to the end.
This time, investors decided to stop the charges, after failing to convince New York City to support the issuance of a $ 380 million loan. The site will soon be dismantled.
