The three favorite destinations of the Swiss are New York, London and Paris. The Big Apple remains number one as other American metropolises lose popularity. Bangkok and Milan are the new flagship destinations.
For many people, visiting New York is a dream. It is therefore not surprising that the city keeps its place as the favorite foreign destination of the Helvetians in the first half of 2015, as Hotels.com indicated in a press release on Thursday.
The Swiss favor classic destinations. London occupies second place in the ranking, Paris third, according to the Hotel Price Index (HPI) published by Hotels.com.
Lisbon in the top 20
American destinations are losing popularity in the first half of this year, for the Swiss as well as for tourists from other European countries such as Germany. While Las Vegas remains popular, other cities, such as Miami and San Francisco, are retreating. Los Angeles, which occupied 18th place in the first half of 2014, is no longer even in the top 20 a year later.
While many destinations have reduced their footfall, Bangkok and Milan have surged forward this semester, ranking 15th and 9th respectively. Ko Samui (Thailand) and Lisbon have just entered the top 20.
