New York exhibited the world stars, in its great fashion event, the Met Gala 2022

After climbing the most exclusive stairs on the planet, international stars and celebrities gathered on Monday night at the gala of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, an extravagant philanthropic evening, after two editions disrupted by the covid-19 pandemic.

In the heart of Manhattan, the iconic annual party once again brought together hundreds of celebrities dressed by major brands, with outfits that were chic, glamorous, unlikely or carrying political messages.

The slogan for 2022? “Gilded Glamour”, alluding to the so-called “Gilded Age”, the golden age of the United States at the end of the 19th century.

the co-host Blake Lively she was one of the first stars to dazzle in a beaded Versace gown with a huge satin bow that unfurled to reveal a powder blue train.

The actress, whose husband, the actor Ryan Reynoldswearing a brown velvet tuxedo, described the dress as a “homage” to New York City architecture, including the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building.

The list of 400 stars of fashion, music, cinema, politics and business, especially Americans, was protected until the last moment and includes personalities such as Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, Justin Bieber, Olivia Rodrigo and Glenn Close.

The richest man in the world, Elon Musk, promised on the carpet to make Twitter the “most inclusive” social network possible, while Hillary Clinton praised the “spirit of the United States” that radiated from the gala.

Singer Alicia Keys showed us her love for the city where she was born and became a benchmark in music. In a sparkly dress with a cape, an ode to The Big Apple, designed by Ralph Lauren, Alicia reminded us of her song “The empire state of mind”.

The eternal CEO of Vogue, Anna Wintour, shone in a Chanel dress. She, the high priestess of the event, validates the invitations to the gala.

The ticket for the prestigious gala is expensive: $35,000 for a seat at the dinner, $200,000 to $300,000 is worth the table paid for by a patron, according to unofficial figures from 2021. An estimated total of $16 million.

For the 2021 edition, postponed from May to September of that year due to the health emergency after a total cancellation in 2020, the show was in charge of Billie Eilish, transformed into Marylin Monroe with platinum blonde hair and a peach-colored dress with Oscar de la Renta tail.

Among the Latin attendees we could see Rosalía, who for the second consecutive year was invited to the most important fashion event. She wore a design signed by Matthew Williams for Givenchy.

Among the figures of models/influencers who did not miss the appointment were the Hadid sisters and also the Jenners, each one showing that the appointment also dictates the future of fashion.

“End Gun Violence”

The gala was also an occasion for politics. New York Mayor Eric Adams arrived in an embellished jacket with his campaign slogan “End Gun Violence” on his back in a city plagued by crime.

Following the purest American philanthropic tradition, the evening, begun in 1948 and traditionally held on the first Monday in May, is intended to finance the Met’s fashion department (The Costume Institute), and coincides with its main annual exhibition.

The exhibition was presented to the press on Monday in front of the US first lady, Jill Biden, who saw it as “a celebration of the designers and fashion that have shaped the true identity of the United States.”

The exhibition includes an American “Anthology of Fashion”, a retrospective from the 19th to the 20th century of a hundred outstanding garments, reinterpreted in an original way by directors and designers such as Sofia Coppola, Martin Scorsese or Tom Ford.

The event takes place at a time when journalists and editors from Vogue and others from the Condé Nast group of international publications (such as GQ, Vanity Fair and Glamour) launched a movement to create a union, which they recalled on social networks with the phrase “Met Gala 2022 the longest night of the workers” on a Vogue cover.

Kim Kardashian style Marilyn

On the red carpet, fewer eccentricities were seen compared to previous years. In 2019, singer and actor Billy Porter appeared as the Sun God, unfurling golden wings and carried by men with muscular torsos.

And no one could match Lady Gaga and her striptease that began with a great fuchsia dress and ended in black lingerie.

However, Kim Kardashianwho appeared dressed completely in black, even covering her face, last September, closed the show with a stroke of brilliance: with her platinum hair pulled back, she wore a bright beige dress, emulating the one Marilyn Monroe wore in her famous song ” Happy Birthday Mr. President”, on the eve of the 60th anniversary of the world icon’s death.

Created in 1948, the gala was for a long time reserved for the very high society of New York. But Anna Wintour, who has been in charge since 1995, says she has transformed it into a celebrity event, tailored for the age of social media. This year, the title of honorary co-chairman was also offered to Instagram boss Adam Mosseri, along with Wintour and Ford.

The evening itself is co-hosted by an all-star quartet: actor couple Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, Oscar-winning actress Regina King, and comedian-musician Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator of the Broadway hit “Hamilton” and author of various musical works at Disney.
