The result of the vote caused thunderous applause in the boardroom, which lasted for almost a minute. Besides Russia, only Belarus, North Korea, Eritrea and Syria voted against condemning the war.

The General Assembly was convened on Wednesday as an emergency session due to the war in Ukraine. UN resolutions are not legally binding, they merely represent the views and demands of the member states.
