New York commemorates the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks

The names of the victims were heard for long minutes, and their reading is a traditional part of the day of remembrance. At 9:03 a.m. local time, when the second hijacked plane hit the south tower twenty years ago, two bell-chimes rang on Ground Zero, followed by another minute of silence for the dead. The list of victims’ names was interrupted by the musical performance of the singer Bruce Springsteen with the song I’ll see you in my dreams.

President Biden was accompanied at the event by First Lady Jill Biden. His predecessors, Obama and Clinton, were also joined by their wives, Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton.

“One thing that was evident on September 11 – and it’s been clear ever since – is that America has always been home to heroes who have been in danger of doing what is right,” Barack Obama said.

We will never forget the heroes, Clinton said

“America will never forget those who lost their lives, those who risked or laid down their lives to save others, and those whose lives changed forever 20 years ago. We owe it to them all to come together again in unity, hope, compassion and determination, “said Bill Clinton, who was president of the United States from 1993 to 2001, on Twitter.

Marc S. Ellenbogen, a former member of the National Advisory Committee of the Democratic Party, who currently chairs the Prague Society, also shared the memory.

“Twenty years later, 9/11 is more than painful for me. I lost friends. We worship the memory of the murdered. I send blessings to the families of the bereaved. The world has changed forever. And we have all lost our innocence, “he said.

Other commemorative events are taking place at the Pentagon near Washington, where a third hijacked plane piloted by Islamist terrorists crashed 20 years ago, and at the village of Shanksville, Pennsylvania, near which a fourth plane crashed after a fight between passengers and terrorists. Attacks by Saudi billionaire Osama bin Laden and the al-Qaeda terrorist organization have killed 2,977 people.
