New York City and Tri-State Area Braces for Winter Weather Advisory with Approaching Snowstorm

NEW YORK (WABC) — Low pressure approaching from the southwest Monday night will bring a couple of inches of snow to the New York City and Tri-State area.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for most of the region into Tuesday.

Snow breaks out this evening ahead of the weak coastal low. Air is very cold and dry, so snow will move into southern NJ by early evening, then take its time moving north. Most will not be impacted during the evening commute.

Snow will overspread the area overnight, leaving a slippery accumulation for the morning commute.

After some steady snow into Tuesdaymorning (esp. N&W), some mixing may occur along the coast (maybe even NYC) mid-morning to midday before ending as snow in the afternoon.

AMOUNTS: Widespread 1-3″. Mixing along the coast will hold down accumulation. Best chance for 3″ is N&W.

WIND: NE 8-16 mph, not a significant player in this weaker storm

IMPACT: Slippery roads & sidewalks. Mixing Tuesday morning may lead to a narrow strip of glazing NYC/coast. Borderline case for school delays/closings. Most likely N&W.

BEHIND THE STORM: Arctic air. A rare prolonged stretch of below normal temperatures. Highs stuck in the 20s Wednesday – will feel like teens. Another chance for snow Friday.
