Many businesses, restaurants and hotels in New York City have barricaded their doors and windows for fear of violent protests after Tuesday’s presidential election.

Police have barricaded the area around Trump Tower, a President Donald Trump skyscraper on 5th Avenue. The police should, according to Mayor Bill de Blasio, be prepared for many and long protests as well as confrontations between different groups. Interventions will take place immediately in the event of violence, the mayor said.

Numerous demonstrations, mostly peaceful, took place in the metropolis after the 2016 presidential elections.

The area around the White House in Washington has also been cordoned off, as has Rodeo Drive shopping street in Beverly Hills, closed to pedestrians and cars for two days.
