And it is that the governor of the state, Kathy Hochul, announced that on Saturday, September 25, New York will celebrate its fifth Free Fishing Day of the year that coincides with National Hunting and Fishing Day that each year promotes outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and target shooting. New York offers anglers six days of free fishing each year.

“I encourage new and experienced anglers to take advantage of the upcoming Free Fishing Day, which gives everyone the opportunity to try the sport at no cost and introduce family and friends to a new hobby,” said Governor Hochul. “Fishing in New York State provides recreational pleasure and serves as a vital economic generator that supports local economies across the state.”

The sixth and final Free Fishing Day in 2021 will be Veterans Day, November 11. On Free Fishing Days, New York residents and non-residents can fish for free without a fishing license.

New York reminds Free Fishing Day participants that while the requirement for a fishing license is waived, all other fishing regulations remain in effect.
