A room, no bathroom, no stove? The viewing video of an apparently very small apartment in New York City has become a hit on the short video platform TikTok. The video shows the inspection of the apartment in the West Village, which is said to be rented for 1650 US dollars (around 1377 euros).

Under the title “New York’s worst apartment”, the two-part video shows a chamber with a window in which there appears to be only a sink and a small refrigerator without a freezer compartment. You can shower in a shared shower in the hallway. There is also the communal toilet in another room, but without a sink, explains a real estate agent.
The video uploaded on January 26th has already received around 2.7 million likes and more than 42,000 – mostly mocking – comments. New York is known for horrendous rents.
According to a study published by Deutsche Bank in 2019, New York is the city with the third most expensive housing in the world. Accordingly, you pay an average of about 2900 US dollars (around 2420 euros) for a two-bedroom apartment.
