Wien. The inner city of Vienna was pretty full on New Year’s Eve. Thousands of people came together at Stephansplatz to celebrate the turn of the year. An hour after midnight, however, light rain set in and there were significantly fewer people on the road, reported APA eyewitnesses. Corona demos were limited
The announced corona demos were limited. According to the police, there was a gathering in the city park and one in the city center. An operational balance sheet is not yet available, but the demonstrations have largely disbanded and it was a comparatively quiet New Year’s Eve overall, it was said at around 2.30 a.m.
Around 70 demonstrators were in the city center. Video recordings distributed on Twitter showed how they marched through the city center with music and Austrian flags accompanied by the police.

The police arrived around 10 p.m. Calls to Corona parties and “walks” circulated on Telegram. After the curfew at 10 p.m., many young people are in a celebratory mood outside. The restaurants had to close at 10 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. The mood remained peaceful until the end.
