The higher regional court has dismissed the public prosecutor’s appeal against the cancellation of the arrest warrant by the Dresden district court on June 3 as unfounded, senior public prosecutor Jürgen Schmidt said on Wednesday.

Unlike the district court, the Higher Regional Court “expressly and with detailed reasons” affirmed the urgent suspicion against the 22-year-old on suspicion of aiding and abetting serious gang theft. The Higher Regional Court has given the statement of a defendant in the current trial on the crime “considerable importance for the justification of the urgent suspicion” and the legal opinion of the public prosecutor’s office “fully confirmed at this point,” said Schmidt.

However, it did not see any grounds for detention because the accused has a permanent place of residence, has had regular work for years, there is no risk of absconding and there is no justification for the risk of collusion.

The young man was arrested on May 10 as a spectator in the trial of six suspects at the Dresden Regional Court and when leaving the building.
Meanwhile, the jewel thieves in Dresden left property damage of over half a million euros when an escape vehicle burned down in the underground car park of a residential building in November 2019. An insurance employee put it at around 450,000 euros for the building alone on Tuesday in the Dresden Regional Court’s trial against six suspects. The trial will continue on Friday. (dpa)
