If everything had gone according to plan, the new Volkswagen Golf R would have already seen it for a few weeks, in an exceptional setting such as the Goodwood Festival of Speed. However, all plans were blown up by coronavirus pandemic and here we are waiting for the official presentation.
Presentation which should not be missing, however, given the total absence of camouflage on the bodywork of the forklifts protagonists of the spy photos you see below.
Same formula
Like its ancestors, the Golf 8 in the R version does not adopt a particularly eye-catching look, allowing itself larger air intakes, rear spoiler, redesigned bumpers, lowered trim, extractor and double pair of exhausts (probably signed Akrapovic). Elements that underline the sporty nature of the Golf R, without exaggerating. Also new are the alloy wheels with asymmetrical spoke design.
The spy photos allow you to take a look also to the passenger compartment, with the furniture we have already seen on the normal Golf to which they are added sports seats and steering wheel, blue profiles (the color of the Volkswagen “dressed” R) and inserts whose texture recalls that of carbon fiber.
How many horses?
The question everyone is asking is not about the look but the power of the new Volkswagen Golf R. Under its hood there will be the usual 2.0 4-cylinder turbo petrol, the same that on the new VW Arteon R and Tiguan R touches the 320 HP . A level that could be surpassed by the Golf R, for which many 333 hp are expected, grounded by all 4 wheels via the 7-speed DSG gearbox.
