The association O Cantinho da Milú, in Setúbal, which welcomed nine of the 18 Galgo dogs rescued from the João Moura estate with evident signs of malnutrition, updated on Saturday night, the state of health of the animals, revealing that the test results and that some have a strong anemia.
“The results of the tests have arrived: the hemograms, biochemistry and proteinograms show altered values. Some dogs have a strong anemia, others tested positive for Babesia and / or Ehrlichia (2 different types of tick fever)”, writes the association on the Facebook, along with a video where you can see the animals.
“The 9 dogs gave negative to Leishmaniasis and Heartworm. The proper treatments will be started”, clarified O Cantinho da Milú, adding that the animals “are being well fed with quality food and supplements / vitamins” and that they have already been ” dewormed and microchipped “. “We hope that you will regain strength and health to be vaccinated and sterilized.
“They are very docile dogs that are gaining confidence in us. We are surrendered”, it can still be read in the publication.
The association also recalls that “all donations raised will obviously be used to treat the 9 greyhounds, but also the remaining 750 animals under our care”. The Cantinho da Milú released two bank accounts to accept donations. Already raised more than eight thousand euros.
The association says it has received hundreds of messages from people interested in adopting the animals, but recalls that they “are not ready for adoption” and that there are “about 750 undefined dogs waiting for a home” at the shelter. “They also deserve it. Each has a unique history, a personality of their own and a lot of love to give and receive”, he concludes.
GNR released the images on Thursday of the 18 Galgo dogs with obvious signs of malnutrition, rescued from the João Moura estate in Monforte. The 59-year-old knight was arrested on Wednesday and released after being heard in court for an alleged crime of mistreatment of pet animals, including dogs and horses.
The animal support association also released a video of the nine malnourished dogs. “Thinness and malnutrition are visible”, can be read in association statement, published on Facebook.
One of the animals rescued by João Moura has already died and another is hospitalized. The 59-year-old bullfighter risks a penalty of up to two years in prison for the crime of animal abuse. Speaking to a bullfighting publication, the rider assured that he did not mistreat the animals. In recent years, Moura renegotiated a debt of half a million euros to the Treasury.
