New Surveillance Camera Discovered: Update on Disappearance of Gary Watson Shearer in Lanzarote

The family of a disappeared person in Lanzarote assures that the Spanish police have found a new surveillance camera.

Gary Watson Shearer, 53, of Renfrew, Scotland, disappeared just hours after arriving alone at the hotspot to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on March 17 this year. He checked into his hotel in Puerto del Carmen before heading to Bar 67.

The last known CCTV footage of Gary, a huge Celtic fan, showed him unconscious in a doorway near the bar at 1:30am the following morning. Daily log reports.

The last update given by authorities in June said they were conducting a new investigation in the area where Gary disappeared.

But now his family says Spanish police have discovered never-before-seen footage of Gary with another man, which authorities plan to release.

speaking to Daily entryDarcy Shearer, Gary’s niece, said police called the family last Friday but have yet to hear back.

“It could be a breakthrough, but we’re still a long way from when my uncle first lost my neighbor,” he said. “Hopefully this leads us to answers because we have been told many times that there are no shots.

“The police contacted us on Friday to say that the footage showed my neighbor with another man and they were not sure if it was a brief encounter or more. They hoped to share it with the press.

We have since asked when the images were taken so we can determine if this is a recent new sighting, but have not heard anything since.

“It has been a long time for all of us and it will become even more difficult when we do not have a clear understanding of what happened.

“They have been the most difficult months of our lives, we are a very close family and we cannot understand anything. There has been radio silence since Gary’s disappearance.”

Previous CCTV footage showed Gary in good spirits and mingling with a group of six inside the pub on the night of his disappearance.

He was reported missing when he failed to show up for the flight home.

Gary’s parents Ann, 71, and Danny, 69, along with their sister Michelle, traveled to Lanzarote in March to help search for him.

His family criticized the Spanish police, citing a lack of contact and support in the weeks after his disappearance.

Darcy continued: “We try to keep his name up and out, but with so little information we have, it’s hard to keep anyone up to date.”

“The police have not yet cooperated. My grandfather asked for a face-to-face meeting while he went to Lanzarote to re-update the posters in the next few days but they didn’t respond”.

Find Gary Shearer’s Facebook page posted Monday night: “Sorry for the lack of posts, there was too little to update you all.

However, the Spanish police have now told us that they have a security camera of Gary with another man and are not sure if it was a brief encounter or more.

“We have been told that this video will be released to the press to try to identify the man and hopefully this will give us more answers about what happened to Gary.”

Gary suffers from epilepsy and type 2 diabetes. He walks with a characteristic limp and was wearing a green and white Celta football shirt, white shorts and white tennis shoes when he disappeared.

Gavin Newlands, the local MSP, has now raised the issue in the House of Commons, and the Speaker, Penny Mordant, has promised to take her case to the Foreign Office.

Newlands said: “The lack of updates and information on the investigation in Lanzarote is a great concern for the family. Gary’s disappearance has left his family devastated as they search for answers.”
