A new study conducted by Dartmouth College has found that seafood consumption, while presenting health benefits, can also expose consumers to potentially dangerous contaminants. In the study published in the journal Exposure and Health, researchers surveyed 1,829 New Hampshire residents to analyze the impact of seafood intake on their health. The study revealed that the most commonly consumed seafood varieties such as salmon, haddock, shrimp, and canned tuna are contaminated with 26 different forms of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

Interestingly, researchers discovered that shellfish, including lobster and shrimp, contained higher concentrations of PFAS compared to fish.

This study raises concerns about the potential health risks associated with consuming seafood, especially for vulnerable populations such as pregnant individuals and children.
