New stage for the future nature park of the ecoterritory of the cliff

The City of Montreal has just concluded a promise to purchase to acquire a building, located at 6360, rue Saint-Jacques, which will serve as safe access to the future green space of the nature park of the ecoterritory of the cliff, in the Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough.

“I am delighted with this acquisition. For years, the residents of Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce have been calling for the development of La Falaise. With the acquisition of this land, we are taking an important step towards the realization of this wish,” declared Gracia Kasoki Katahwa, Mayor of Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce.

It was in June 2018 that the municipality announced the desire to create a new large park in the space freed up by the reconstruction of the infrastructures in the sector of the Turcot interchange and the old Turcot marshalling yard.

“At each stage of the development of the cliff ecoterritory nature park, we are taking new concrete action to root nature in the metropolis and to protect biodiversity. We are acting with the firm will to invest in the future of Montreal, by continuing to meet the immediate needs of the Montreal population in terms of parks, green spaces and an active lifestyle,” said the Mayor of Montreal, Valerie Plante.

“Our ambition is to make Montreal an example of resilience and a reference in terms of urban ecology and an environment conducive to healthy lifestyles,” explained Caroline Bourgeois, responsible for large parks, sports and recreation, Mont -Royal, Parc Jean-Drapeau, Espace pour la Vie and East Montreal to the executive committee of the City of Montreal.

“To make it a complete project, we are continuing our discussions with the Ministry of Transport in order to materialize a park project consistent with the work carried out as part of the Turcot project”, continues the elected official.

A space of nature

L’green space of the cliff ecoterritory nature park will extend over an area of ​​nearly 60 hectares, located from the Saint-Jacques cliff to Notre-Dame Street, to help improve the area’s biodiversity. Its users will be able to enjoy privileged contact with nature thanks to the development of wooded areas, wetlands and grassland areas.

In accordance with the orientations of the Urban Agglomeration Land Use and Development Plan, the creation of the cliff ecoterritory nature park is part of the City’s efforts to protect the natural environments found on its territory. territory. Its creation represents a sum of $62 million, allocated under the Ten-Year Capital Works Program (PDI) from 2022 to 2031.
