New potentially deadly virus identified in China

According to the Taiwan Center for Disease Control, the novel Lanya virus, which is a genipavirus, can lead to death if infected. A new virus dangerous to humans was officially identified only last week, although it was discovered back in 2018 in China.

An international team of scientists found that shrews are carriers of the new Lanya virus. It was from these animals that the first 35 people were infected, so there is no evidence that this virus was transmitted from person to person. Also during the study, scientists found a new virus in 2% of domestic goats and 5% of dogs.

Symptoms

All people who become infected with the new virus have symptoms that are very flu-like. infected people suffer from fever, cough, headache, vomiting and fatigue. Also, in the blood of patients, a decrease in the level of platelets and leukocytes was detected. Another symptom of the new disease was a violation of the normal functioning of the liver and kidneys.
