New Mitsubishi Xpander Cross and Xpander Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) Launching in Thailand in 2024

Jakarta

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) is keeping its promise to release a new hybrid car around 2023 to 2025. Interestingly, Mitsubishi is not only preparing the Xpander, the Xpander Cross is also an electrification program.

In Mitsubishi Motors Thailand’s Facebook social media post, the launch of the Xpander Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) and Xpander Cross HEV will take place on February 1 2024 at 09.30 local time.

Of course, Mitsubishi has not released details of the two cars. But the teaser image shows slight exterior modifications, but in general there are significant changes to the lines.

From the teaser, it can also be seen that the Xpander Hybrid and Xpander Cross Hybrid will get blue exterior accents to differentiate them from the internal combustion engine versions.

The 7-passenger car will not use a mild hybrid system. From information shared by Mitsubishi Motors Thailand, the Xpander HEV and Xpander Cross HEV use a full hybrid system.

If you really use a full hybrid system, of course the Xpander HEV and Xpander Cross HEV will be superior to the competition. Toyota hasn’t played yet. Meanwhile, the Ertiga Hybrid and XL7 Hybrid were launched with Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki or SHVS technology, – a mild hybrid form.

Thailand was chosen to be the country that gets the HEV version of the Xpander and Xpander Cross. Even though the first launch of Xpander was carried out in Indonesia. However, the relaxation policy for hybrid cars is more attractive in Thailand, which has an impact on selling prices, as a result the Xpander and Xpander Cross HEV were launched first in the White Elephant Country.

“Yes, we will introduce the Xpander hybrid. But the Xpander hybrid will be introduced in Thailand first. Because there is an incentive program (hybrid cars) in Thailand,” said Mitsubishi Motors Corporation President & CEO Takao Kato in BSD Tangerang, Banten in August 2023.
