New Ministry of Religion regulations, whistles and stares include sexual assault

The Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) has issued the latest regulations on forms of sexual violence. Now, whistling to stare at someone can be included in the category of sexual assault.

The latter type of sexual violence is regulated by the Ministry of Religion through the Regulation of the Minister of Religion (PMA) number 73 of 2022 relating to the treatment and prevention of sexual violence in the educational units of the Ministry of Religion.

“Forms of sexual violence include acts that are performed verbally, not physically, physically and / or through information and communication technologies,” said PMA on Tuesday, quoted by the official website of the Ministry of Religion (18/10/2022 ). ).

Religion Ministry spokeswoman Anna Hasbie said there were 16 classifications or types of sexual assault. It includes whistles, seduction, jokes, to stare at the victim.

“Submitting comments that contain seductions, jokes and / or whistles that have a sexual undertone to the victim is also a form of sexual assault. This includes looking at the victim with sexual undertones and / or discomfort,” said Anna citing the official website of the Ministry of Religion.

Regarding the sanctions, Anna said that if the perpetrators were proven to have committed sexual violence, they would be subject to criminal and administrative sanctions. She hopes that this latest regulation can serve as a guide for all interested parties in the education unit of the Ministry of Religion in their efforts to manage and prevent sexual violence.

“It is hoped that in the future there will be no more sexual violence in the educational unit,” he concluded.

The following 16 categories of sexual violence are regulated in MAP number 73 of 2022:

1. Express expressions that discriminate or harass the victim’s physical appearance, physical condition and / or gender identity.

2. Speaking words that contain seductions, jokes and / or whistles that have a sexual overtone to the victim.

3. Persuade, promise, offer, threaten or coerce the victim into engaging in sexual transactions or activities.

4. Staring at the victim with sexual and / or uncomfortable feelings.

5. Intentionally peeking or seeing victims carrying out private activities and / or in private spaces.

6. Intentionally showing the genitals.

7. Touch, rub, touch, hold, hug, kiss and / or rub body parts on the victim’s body.

8. Conduct a rape attempt.

9. Committing rape, including penetration with objects or parts of the body other than the genitals.

10. Practicing a culture of sexual violence.

11. Forcing or inducing the victim to have an abortion.

12. Allow sexual violence.

13. Giving punishments or sanctions that have sexual overtones.

14. Sending messages, jokes, images, photos, audio and / or video with sexual undertones to the victim even if prohibited by the victim.

15. Taking, recording, uploading, distributing photos, audio recordings and / or images of victims with sexual undertones.

16. To commit other acts of sexual violence in accordance with the provisions of the law.
